I gave this place two tries because they’re cheap and are open on Mondays. the first time I went, i got acrylic with swirl design and they messed it up so bad, but I didn’t say anything because the tech was on the older side and i felt bad. this second time, I went for refill acrylic with black French tip with coffin shape. the tech kept rounding out the nails and I told her several times I wanted them sharp, not blunt. she ignored my several requests to sharpen the nails. she also cut me with her file and dremel several times, and when I flinched my hand back in pain, she grabbed me and stared at me like it was my fault I was getting cut. the base coat color application was also so sloppy, you can see streaks. it should never be like that. lastly, to top it off, she made the french tips so thick and fixed it only after I told her I liked them on the thinner side. I asked if she could fix the one finger she made it super thick on, and she told me no and that it wasn’t thick. why are you telling a paying client that they’re wrong? I’m paying for nails that I want, not what you think is right.

i came in with an appointment set by my partner, upon coming in the older woman ignored me while I said hello and asked a question but the woman next to her was open to answer them for me. the older woman gave me such a look that felt really uncomfortable. a few moment later they were ready for me , i received a pedicure by the man that works there. They proceeded to rush through my gel mani pedi doing the manicure at the same time while i was in the pedicure chair which was a bit overwhelming because I wasn’t asked or prepped for this. my partner who is biracial and lighter skin was met with so much kindness at the door , the older woman was super vocal and happy to take them saying how much my partner was so nice and even standing up by the door to talk to them. I am dark skin and not biracial so you could only imagine how watching this felt. they took their time doing my partners nails which look way better than mine, they barley filed me down. To say the least this did not feel good and i did not feel welcomed, i came in super kind and was treated as if i was an inconvenience. the shop was not packed. this felt like colorism but to say the least i will not be returning. I gave a $20 tip to everyone in there simply because i am a service worker as well, i work full time customer service and was hoping my one day off id be able to enjoy some selfcare but i left feeling a lot worse.

Went to get the manicure. Guy cleaning my hand cut too much of the finger skin starts bleeding then proceed to cough (pleghmy cough) on my hand and i felt it. He didn’t even cover it with his hand or elbow, no covering or guard just coughed right into my hand. Then proceed to SNEEZE and WIPE HIS NOSE then went back to cleaning my hand WITHOUT washing hands. Then someone was paying and he processed the payment and the customer was paying in cash and proceed to touch the money and after that got back to touching and cleaning my nails AGAIN WITHOUT washing hands. Very UNSANITARY AND UNHYGIENICMy finger starts bleeding and I left because I don’t feel good about everything.

I’ve been coming here for pedicures for a while, the service is always great but today they raised the bar and I didn’t think that was even possible. I got a spa pedicure, which is absolute heaven on earth, done by Lucy who has amazing hands that put me in a trance. Every pedicure comes with a hot rock massage, which is my favorite part of the pedicure, it is very classy and very relaxing. I have never gotten a hot rocks at any other salon. While at the pedicure bowl, Ken came and sat next to me to do my very natural looking overlay, and he gives the best massages, I wish I could steal him 😫. At other Salons you would be there for hours because they are usually done as two separate services, today’s service was really elevated by having them done at the same time, gave me back at least an hour that I was planning to spend there. I come from west philly to get my nails done, but I’d make the commute here even if I lived in Antarctica. This salon is not just the best in South Philly, but the absolute best in Philly! This is a pic of my overlay, if you’re a nurse girly like me, how would they even know?!

I used to love this place but unfortunately I feel like it’s gone down. I was very disappointed with my nail service yesterday. First of all I got a regular pedicure and when cutting the cuticles my technician cut me and now I have puss and it’s cut around my toes. Definitely it hurts and I’m healing it with ointment and cleaning it out so it doesn’t get infected. Also my gel manicure she didn’t keep my nails under the light the whole time when drying the gel, and i can see a difference. The nail polish around the edges are chipping already. For $75 dollars it should be better. I’m disappointed.

I have been going to Mi Cumbia for a little over a year now, and it’s the BEST waxing experience I’ve had anywhere in the U.S. Right off the bat, you are greeting by the most loving and welcoming staff. Lucesita will help you with all your booking needs and never fails to have a smile on her face or a little dance in her feet. If you are new to waxing, Karina will talk you through an orientation explaining her technique and how hair growth/waxing works. Never have I EVER had a waxing lady as tedious, efficient, and personable as Karina. She even breaks out the tweezers to get any ingrowns in sight! After my first couple of waxes at Mi Cumbia, I could tell a difference unlike any waxing place— complete and utter SMOOTHNESS. It truly is the perfect wax. Recovery is fast and with her technique you aren’t in much pain during the whole process. Karina is always getting you to chat and distracts you from the waxing— she’s so easy to talk too, that sometimes I forget my bikini line is getting waxed!! I’m sure there’s cheaper places in Philadelphia, but Mi Cumbia is worth every. Dang. Penny. The service is beyond anything else you can get in the city. What I love most about Mi Cumbia, was the friendliness of the staff. They remembered conversations from last visits and always made me feel the utmost comfortable. Getting your first wax or trying a new place out can be really awkward, but I never felt that here. You are in good hands. I tell everyone I know they need to cancel their next wax appointment and book with Karina instead!!!
